My Classroom Management Approach:
Having organization and classroom management skills are a must to keep the class running smoothly. In the first few weeks of school, a set of expectations and consequences need to be made clear. Discipline is an important aspect of a positive teaching and learning environment. A successful behavior management plan requires creative thinking on the part of the teacher with consistent implementation of the plan and structured routines that don't allow students to get off task. Rewards and Consequences Positive: 1. Verbally recognized for being productive, and behaving positively. 2. Call or note home to parent/guardian about wonderful attitude, amazing work ethic, fabulous artwork, etc. 3. If the entire class is behaving positively, I have a point system which results in a free art period, day without assigned seating, or an art class party. Negative: 1. First time – Verbal warning and statement of poor choice or rule that is being ignored 2. Second time – Move to work alone and one-on-one conversation about the issue. 3. Third time – Put materials away and work on written assignment related to the lesson. Parents will be contacted so we can all work on solving the issue together. 4. Fourth time – Write-up and detention will be given. 5. Fifth time – Sent to the office, parents will be called, possible ISS or suspension. |
